Tuesday morning update:

First responders continued to search this morning, Tuesday, April 9, for a missing woman after the truck she was in plunged into the ship channel in Port Aransas last night.

A dive team from the Corpus Christi Police Department is searching the water with sonar, and the U.S. Coast Guard is conducting an air search, said Scott Burroughs, chief of the Port Aransas Police Department.

The pickup truck went into the channel after traveling off the beach and over the south jetty last night.

A 54-year-old Port Lavaca man was in the truck with the woman, Burroughs said. The man got out of the water on his own, the chief said. He had minor injuries and was treated at the scene last night.

The man is cooperating with the investigation and was released after he gave police a statement last night, the chief said.

The circumstances under which the truck was driven into the water remain hazy, Burroughs said. The man’s statement on that point wasn’t clear, Burroughs said.

Police are not yet releasing his identity and haven’t identified the woman.

The man and woman were acquaintances, Burroughs said.

Police believe the truck is on the bottom of the ship channel in water dozens of feet deep.
