Sand sculptor Joaquin Cortez of Stephenville puts the finishing touches on his Pokemon Go sculpture Tuesday, July 19, at the beach in Port Aransas. Cortez, who finished second in Sandfest’s amateur adult solo division this year with a sculpture of the head of a Native American, said he carved Pokemon rising from an iPhone because his kids wanted him to create a sculpture to honor the smartphone game that is sweeping the nation.
