She enjoyed spend- ing summer vacations beachcombing, feeding the seagulls, fishing and shopping in Port Aransas, and also enjoyed visiting family and friends in Fredericksburg.
Nichols was a Seton Medical Center emergency room nurse for more than 26 years after graduating from the University of Texas-Austin Nursing School in 1984.
She also used her nursing skills to nurture baby birds that left their nests too soon, helping with Redeemer Lutheran Church’s former aviary and the wild Austin Quaker parrots.
She was preceded in death by her father, Louis E. Nichols.
Survivors include her mother, Betty Nichols of Fredericksburg; twin sister, Yvonne Nichols of Austin; nephews, Ryan and Joshua Nichols of Austin; niece, Katrina Nichols of Austin; an uncle, Clayton Eckhardt of Fredericksburg; aunts, Shirley Berry of Kyle and Sandy Edwards of Lubbock.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Austin. Memorials may be made to Seton Fund, Redeemer Lutheran Church, or the charity of choice in Nichols’ memory. A memorial guestbook is available online at www.wcfish.com.
Johnny Martin Ford of Kemah, formerly of Port Aransas, died on Friday, Oct. 21, 2011. He was 56.
He was born on Nov. 8, 1954 in Corpus Christi to Ray Ford and Joyce Johnson.
Ford graduated from Aransas Pass High School while living in Port Aransas. He worked for Pat Magee’s Surf Shop in Port Aransas in the 1970s and 80s as a manager and later ran the shop’s central warehouse in San Marcos. He eventually moved to the Houston area and most recently worked for Republic Bag.
Favorite past-times were fishing and sitting in the sun watching birds and squirrels.
Survivors include two sisters Jo (Dennis) Taylor of Old River-Winfrey and Cathy (Greg) Genser of Houston; three brothers, Ray Ford of San Antonio, Richard (Janice) Ford of Carthage and Roy Ford of Cibolo; and close friends, Bob Nelson of Clear Lake, Pat and Mary Lynn Magee of Port Aransas, Jimmy and Sally Farley of Kemah, formerly of Port Aransas, and Billy Gaskins of Port Aransas.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, MaryAnn Skelton “Ford”.
The family held a memorial service at his home on Oct. 26. A memorial service also will be held in Port Aransas. Once the date is set, an announcement will be published in the South Jetty.
