Native plants use in landscape will be topic at PAGC meeting

Incorporating native plants into your landscape will be the topic at the next meeting of the Port Aransas Garden Club on Tuesday, Feb. 11.

The doors at the Civic Center will open at 9:30 a.m. for fellowship and refreshments, and the meeting will begin at 10 a.m.

Michael Womack, director of the South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, will be the guest speaker.

His talk will be titled “Blended Landscapes: Incorporating Natives into Existing Landscapes for Beauty and Wildlife.”

“Michael always gives an interesting discussion and offers much information and gardening tidbits of advice,” said Jean Peters, of the garden club. “Come join this meeting and learn what you can do in your yard to provide native plants for our butterflies, bees and birds.”

The first reports of the success of the annual Tour of Homes that took place on Saturday, Jan. 25, will be announced, according to Peters.

There also will be discussion of the upcoming “Fashion and Flip Flops – Under the Sea” style show, set for Thursday, March 5.

Peters said that volunteers are still needed, and members should find where their talents are needed.

“Guests and community members are always welcome at PAGC meetings,” Peters said. “Come learn more from Michael Womack and find out more about the work the PAGC does in our community.”

PAGC meets the second Tuesday of each month. Watch future issues of the South Jetty for information about the meetings and special speakers and topics.

The Port Aransas Garden Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed in 1964 to encourage interest in beautification of the city. Proceeds from club activities are used for landscaping, various civic projects in Port Aransas and scholarships for Port Aransas High School seniors.
