Christmas Care and Share Drive
There is still plenty of time to donate to the annual Care and Share Christmas Food Drive sponsored by the Moore-McDonald VFW Post 8967.
Every year since 1991, post members have helped to provide Christmas dinners for Port Aransas residents in need.
The cash donations will be used to purchase gift cards to give to the families and individuals so they can cook themselves special meals on Christmas Day.
Stop by the VFW, 311 N. Alister St., to drop off the donations.
Checks for the drive also can be mailed to VFW Care and Share, P.O. Box 1447, Port Aransas, TX 78373.
Post members will be accepting applications for the meal gift cards on Tuesday, Dec. 7 and 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the post. Applicants must be Port Aransas residents and show proof of residency.
The gift cards will be distributed on Friday, Dec. 17.
In 2020, the VFW provided gift cards for Christmas dinner to 130 families and individuals.
Any funds not used for the gift card giveaway will be used for the VFW building fund to help retire the debt the members accrued in rebuilding the post after Hurricane Harvey’s 2017 destruction.
