The Port A Chickadees birding team participated in the Great Texas Birding Classic on Sunday, May 3. The team identified 97 species of birds while birding at the different birding centers in Port Aransas. The Chickadees are in the Roughwings division of the birding classic for kids 13 and younger and are sponsored by Woody’s Sports Center. The group spent eight hours in the field spotting birds. From left are Zoey Montgomery, Samantha Ogle, Maddy Nienow, Calligraphy Lauseng and Hannah Ramsden. The team is led by Dr. Joan Holt. The team has attended after-school classes on birding throughout the year, led by Julie Findley and sponsored by the City of Port Aransas Parks and Recreation Department.
