Peruse unique art, meet the artists and socialize with other art enthusiasts at the fourth annual Port Aransas Art Walk.

 

 


Galleries, studios and shops will open their doors, some only for the one-day event.

The walk, called the PA Art About, will be held on the same day as the Port Aransas Centennial Celebration, Saturday, Oct. 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Art Center for the Islands and the Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce –Tourist Bureau.

Promoting art and culture, the Art About is designed to let everyone know “Port A is Port Arty!”

Starting in Old Town and winding down State Hwy. 361, the self-guided tour enables participants to chart their own course. Maps will be available at all locations.

According to art center director Mary Rose, this is a great opportunity to get out and walk, bike, or take a cart, and learn more about the art culture in the community.

Participants can meet a variety of folks and have refreshments at each location.

The following 13 “arty” locations will be included in the Art About:

Potters on Cotter, 413 E. Cotter.
Professional potters showcasing handthrown pottery, original photo cards and handmade jewelry. Visitors will have a chance to throw clay on the potter’s wheel. Hosts will be Ken and Brenda Barnett.

Debra Wilbanks Williams studio,
118 W. White.
An award-winning Texas artist who lives and creates in Port Aransas. The studio space is open to the public once a year for the Art About. Hosts will be Williams with family and friends.

Bam Bam Artwares, 403 N. Alister
St.
This new shop in Old Town features an eclectic collection of wearable, hangable and useable works of art by local and regional artists. Host will be Flora Caylor Buerger.

Lazy Boy Lounge, 343 Oleander.
Garage turned community clubhouse features paintings by Michael Earney from his Roadside Memorials, Projectile Points, Fruits and Vegetables and Mask series. Music and poetry also will be featured. Hosts will be Carol Elliott and Michael Earney.

Port A Gallery, 345 N. Alister St.
Offering a collection of coastal art, including paintings, sculpture, photography and unique glasswork by award winning Texas artists. Hosts will be Rick and Cameron Pratt, Linda Morgan and Richard Millan.

Art Center for the Islands, 323 N.
Alister St.
Café chairs from the historic Tarpon Inn, hand-painted by local artists, will be for sale as part of the center’s “CHAIR-I-TEE! If You Care-Buy a Chair” fundraiser. Proceeds from the sale will fund the center’s projects, like the building fund. Also available for viewing will be original art from more than 200 artists in a variety of mediums – paintings, photos, pottery, jewelry, glass and sculpture. Hosts will be art center board members, volunteers and Rose.

Susan Castor Collection, 106 E.
Roberts.
A professional interior design studio offering unique furnishings and accessories with a coastal influence. Works by Texas artists Darrin Potter and Cherith Fenton are featured at this year’s show. Hosts will be Susan Castor and staff.

Donna Van Baalen Studio, 303 S.
Station.
Working studio featuring works in progress and paintings in miniature. Oil paintings of all sizes of still lifes, florals, landscapes, birds, animals and portraits will be displayed. Host will be Donna Van Baalen.

Cita Resort Interiors, 129 N. Alister
St.
A shop featuring an eclectic variety of unusual art, home furnishings, clothing and jewelry from around the world. Hosts will be Shana Heard and Kay Kuhne.

Felder Gallery, 1726 State Hwy.
361 – Tower Center.
A colorful gallery featuring the oil paintings of Larry Felder along with 25 local, regional and national artists. Felder is well known for his paintings of water reflections. Hosts will be Linda, Larry and Robby Felder.

A Mano, 1726 State Hwy. 361
– Tower Center.
Offering folk art, talavera ceramics, pottery, textiles, jewelry and home décor, all handmade from colonial Mexico. Hosts will be Deb Wilson and staff.

Mustang Island Art Gallery, 2222
State Hwy. 361.
Original artwork by national and internationally known artists from Texas, United States and Europe. Hosts will be Jill and Flint Reed.

Ida Ayala Pauken Studio, 660 Sand
Key Dr.
A small studio space of a newly relocated clay artist featuring mostly figurative work. The clay process and completed pieces will be displayed. Host will be Ida Pauken.

The PA Art About is free and open to the public.
