Redfish, red snapper and yellowfin tuna have been regular catches during fishing trips out of Port Aransas this week, according to workers along the waterfront. Anglers fishing in the bays are catching lots of gafftop and sand trout, while offshore trips are returning with limits of vermilion snapper reported folks at the docks along the Port Aransas waterfront. Anglers have been reeling in redfish and red snapper during recent trips, according to folks at the docks along the Port Aransas waterfront. Capt. Dee Wallace, at Fisherman’s Wharf, said fishermen in the bay have been bringing back good catches of redfish. Todd Ohlde of Linn, Kan., came back with a nice catch from a 60-hour trip on Thursday, April 10. His catch included yellowfin tuna, queen snapper and tilefish. He was aboard the Scat Cat out of Fisherman’s Wharf with Capt. Justin Giles.

The late Penny Slingerland of Port Aransas was among folks inducted into the Texas Saltwater Fishing Hall of Fame during ceremonies on Saturday, April 5, in Sugar Land.

Totin’ tuna

A 36-hour trip on Saturday and Sunday, March 22 and 23, yielded nice catches of yellowfin tuna. Above, Waylen Meeks, left, and Josh Beckman show off the yellowfin tuna they caught. Their catches weighed in from 6o 60 80 pounds. The offshore trip was aboard the Gulf Eagle with captains John McIntire and Cowboy Tyler out of Deep Sea Headquarters.
