Two killed, one arrested in wreck near Port Aransas

Two people were killed in the State Highway 361 wreck that shut down Port Aransas ferry service for five hours today (Monday, May 26), police said.

The crash occurred shortly before 3 a.m. on a part of the highway that’s near Harbor Island Road, according to a post that the Aransas Pass Police Department put on its Facebook page.

“It is believed that a male driver, age 32, was driving a Dodge Ram 2500 that struck a Kia sedan temporarily parked on the side of the road, resulting in the truck rolling over,” the Facebook post said.

“The male driver, as well as a 40-year-old female passenger, both out of Victoria, were both pronounced deceased at the scene. A third female passenger has been taken to the hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time,” police wrote in the post, put on Facebook at about 11 a.m.

“Two individuals in the Kia, both out of Ingleside, were also assessed for injuries. Upon further investigation, the driver of the Kia was arrested for DWI. His passenger was released to family after refusing treatment from EMS,” the post said.

Police didn’t release the names of any of the people involved in the accident.

Ferry service was shut down to keep traffic from flowing toward the accident scene while police were working there.
