The South Jetty is about to start a new publication schedule.
Up until now, the newspaper hit newsstands in Port Aransas at midday on Wednesdays, and the paper was delivered to subscribers’ mailboxes on Thursdays.
Beginning with the Oct. 16 edition, the newspaper will go on newsstands late afternoon on Thursdays, and subscribers will receive their South Jetty on Fridays.
The e-edition of the paper will be uploaded about midday on Thursdays.
The new schedule will mean new deadlines. Effective immediately, the deadline for submitting non-breaking news items to the South Jetty will be noon Mondays. The deadline for submitting material for ads and obituaries will be noon Tuesdays.
The publication schedule is changing because the newspaper is switching to a printing press with a different schedule.
The South Jetty has been printed at the McAllen Monitor press since 2023. That press no longer is an option because the Monitor’s ownership recently began outsourcing print operations to Reynosa, Mexico, just across the border from McAllen.
The South Jetty explored the possibility of using various Texas presses, but the Reynosa press appears to be the most appropriate choice from an economic standpoint and a logistical point of view.
The South Jetty pages will be sent to Reynosa electronically, and the printed product then will be trucked to a location in Kingsville. South Jetty personnel will pick up papers in Kingsville and take them to Port Aransas for distribution.
The Oct. 16 issue will be the first one printed in Reynosa.
Anyone who has questions about the South Jetty’s new publication schedule may call the newspaper at (361) 749-5131.
