A few years ago, we launched the Port Aransas Salty Stories video collection to showcase the people that make Port Aransas the best family beach destination in the Gulf. We just premiered the second in our series of four this year with an incredible story on the lifelong journey of Georgia and Duncan Neblett. You’ll learn the story of this dynamic couple that moved here more than 40 years ago and made this island their home, helping shape what Port A has become today. The vision and purpose behind these stories are geared to help bring the island to life into focus for our visitors, making Port Aransas a real community. Each of these salty stories thread a piece of the puzzle that paint the picture of living the island life and the Port A Way.
Earlier this year we launched our first episode featuring Jace Tunnel with the Harte Research Institute at Texas A&M Corpus Christi and his beachcombing along the shore in Port A. Later this year we will tell the story of lifelong resident and lighthouse keeper Billy Gaskins. Billy tells his story of starting a business here in Port A, growing up, and the growth of this coastal community. And in the final episode, we will feature Ben and Mary Ann Frishman that have made Port A their second home. They have many ties to the Port A community living here, growing up in the waters and parents that founded the Port Aransas South Jetty newspaper.
To see past our past two seasons of Salty Stories, you can catch how Winton’s Island Candy and My Fun Port A started up, the Amos Rehabilitation Keep at UTMSI, the surfing scene in Port A, The Farley Boatworks, and Captain Dee Wallace of Fisherman’s Wharf. The salty stories of these people are the very fabric that make up this wonderful place to live, visit, and work.
