Nueces County vote went to Trump

Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election included winning the vote in Nueces County and Texas, overall.

In Nueces County, Trump hauled in 67,015 votes, while Vice President Kamala Harris got 53,015, according to the Nueces County Elections Department.

With an estimated 97.5 percent of the vote counted in Texas, the Associated Press reported that Trump had 6,366,085 votes, while Harris had 4,792,778, according to The Texas Tribune.

In other races of interest to Port Aransas …

• The Associated Press projected that incumbent U.S Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas won re-election over Colin Allred. With an estimated 99 percent of the vote counted, the Republican Cruz had garnered 5,973,420 votes, while Allred, a Democrat, had gotten 5,002,501. The Libertarian candidate, Ted Brown, got 266,061 votes.

• Incumbent Republican Michael Cloud beat Democrat Tanya Lloyd in the race for U.S. House of Representatives District 27, which includes Port Aransas. With an estimated 99 percent of the votes counted, Cloud led by a large margin: 183,570 to 94,217, the Tribune reported.

• AP said Republican challenger Adam Hinojosa prevailed in a tight race with incumbent Morgan LaMantia, a Democrat, in the race for Texas Senate District 27, according to the Tribune. With an estimated 99 percent of the vote counted, Hinojosa had 125,879 votes, or 49.4 percent, while LaMantia had 123,075, or 48.3 percent. Green Party candidate Robin Lee Vargas had 5,943 votes, or 2.3 percent.

• Incumbent Todd Hunter, a Republican, beat Democrat Cathy McAuliffe in the race for District 32 state representative. District 32 includes Port Aransas. Hunter had 53,930 votes to McAuliffe’s 24,538.

• Republican Jimmy Granberry defeated Democrat Terry Shamsie in the race for district attorney of the 105th judicial district, which includes Port Aransas and Corpus Christi. With all vote centers reporting, Granberry had 63,907 votes to Shamsie’s 50,925, the Nueces County Elections Department reported.

• Republican Monty Allen was unopposed in his bid for constable of Nueces County Precinct 4, which includes Port Aransas. He received 6,677 votes.
