Anyone who wants to discuss a proposed elimination of trolley route stops will have the opportunity to speak before the Port Aransas City Council, which meets at 5 p.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 19.

Council will consider whether it should eliminate trolley route service to the Gulf Waters RV Resort. A proposal to schedule a public hearing on deletion of stops on Sandcastle Drive, the south jetty and at the airport is also on the agenda.

City Manager Michael Kovacs said the council had previously discussed eliminating the Gulf Waters stop.

He also said the council is considering the elimination of other stops to shorten a trolley wait time of up to one hour to 30 minutes.

"We’re looking at the wait time for the trolley and how it is so long. We want to get that time down from one hour to 30 minutes," Kovacs said.

Cutting out some route stops will shorten the time and possibly increase ridership on the trolley.

Kovacs said a study was performed while Winter Texans were in town, and it was revealed that ridership from Gulf Waters was "fairly dismal."

"There is some ridership, but just not enough," Kovacs said.
