Ground was broken Wednesday, May 31, on a 3,300-square-foot addition to the William R. ‘Bill’ Ellis Memorial Library. Friends of the Library are still in the fundraising stage, working to raise almost $202,000 quickly to cover the cost of furniture, shelving, flooring and other finishing touches. On hand to break ground are, from left, Georgia Neblett (original Library Advisory Board member), Jenny Dailey (library director), Carolee Crider (Library Advisory Board co-chair), Jill Leavitt (Library Advisory Board alternate), Beverly Bolner (city council member), Wendy Moore (city council member), Ellen Gray (Library Advisory Board secretary), David Parsons (city manager), Rick Kalke (Library Advisory Board, chair), Joan Holt (city council member), Charles Bujan (mayor), Jo Leta Gavit (Friends of the Library president), Bruce Clark (city council member), from Turner/Ramirez Architects Jack Rice Turner, Christina Hunter, Diego Martinez (project manager); Chuck Crawford (city council member), and from Victory Building Team, Jeremy Baugh, Lacey Baugh and Tom Kennedy, site supervisor. Construction is expected to be completed in October.
