The junior varsity Lady Marlins basketball team marked three wins after four tough games, earning third place at the Bishop High School tournament in Bishop, Friday through Saturday, Nov. 14-15.
The Port Aransas High School Big Blue dominated Falfurrias 31-2 in game one of the tourney, stopping the Belles by 24 points in the first half.
Game two was another win for PAHS as they overwhelmed the Lady Bucs from Miller High School in Corpus Christi, by 21 points. The JV Lady Marlins team finished off its opponent with a final score of 35-14.
In the third game, on Saturday, PAHS fell 11-22 after playing John Paul II High School.
To take the third place spot at the tournament, the ladies in blue had to conquer the Lady Trojans of Beeville and they did just that. In game four, the Lady Marlins scored a 35-24 win over Beeville High School. The team battled hard from the first quarter into the second half to secure the victory.
“All weekend when we walked in to play a game, in our sixteen-team tournament, officials and coaches would ask if I needed extra time for the rest of my team to get there. We are a team of six or seven, depending on injuries, and we don’t have a lot of refined talent because, in a small school, those kids are on varsity. Instead, we (JV) take the floor, game after game, and out work each and every team we face. Nothing makes me more proud to coach for Port A,” coach Ginger Jones said.
