About 135 Port Aransas residents took advantage of Dunk Your Junk Day, according to Mike Secich of Keep Port Aransas Beautiful.

Folks were allowed to dispose of their junk for free during the event on Saturday, Oct. 31, at the city transfer station, known more commonly as the city dump.

Some 11 volunteers unloaded about 6,900 pounds of junk from 50 trucks and other vehicles that visited the dump, Secich said. Also taking part was a volunteer from the Port Aransas High School Planeteers, an environmental club.

The City of Port Aransas provided five employees, two front-end loaders and a tractor with a backhoe to help out.

The event was sponsored by Keep Port Aransas Beautiful, the City of Port Aransas and Republic Services.
