Take note: Trash pick-up days in Port Aransas are changing.
Effective Thursday, Dec. 1, trash pick -will not be provided on Wednesday and Saturdays.
On that date, all homes south of Avenue G and southwest of Cut-Off Road will have trash picked up Monday and Thursday.
Also on Dec. 1, all homes east of Alister Street and south of Avenue G will continue to have trash picked up Monday and Thursday.
All homes north of Avenue G and northeast of Cut-off Road will continue to have trash picked up Tuesday and Friday.
Recycling will continue to be picked up once every other week. Republic Services officials are still working out the new recycling collection schedule.
Republic Services is the company contracted with the city for trash pick-up.
“The intent is to get all the services done within Monday through Friday, because the traffic in the peak season of Port Aransas is horrible,” Mike Reeves manager of Republic’s municipal services told the South Jetty for a story on in the Nov. 3 edition. “And we want to make sure … we don’t have our big residential trucks on the roads on Saturdays in Port A.”
He added, “It’s a benefit for the residents. Because many people, especially (with) short-term rentals, and visitors, don’t often get the memo that they need to have their carts out on Saturday morning. And so we get a lot of carryover trash (the next week.)”
To handle the increased load on the Monday and Thursday route, a third driver is being added to the route. Currently, only two drivers pick up trash on those days.
