A Mexican boat crew and 1,500 pounds of marijuana were apprehended near Packery Channel on Mustang Island this morning, according to a U.S. Coast Guard news release.
U.S. Coast Guard and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations Corpus Christi crews intercepted a Mexican lancha boat and crew carrying the illegal drugs in federal waters around 4:15 a.m., the release said.
A lancha boat is about 30 feet long with a slender profile, typically has one outboard motor and can travel about 30 mph.
