Tennis team scores wins in first contest

Port Aransas High School’s tennis team kicked off a new season with a new coach on Thursday, Jan. 25.

Kayla Sheffield has taken the reigns from former Coach Vic Dimond, who led the team for a decade before retiring at the end of last year with a state championship in girls’ singles with Carolina Williams.

The opening contest was against the Class 5A Veterans Memorial High School in Corpus Christi.

The Class 2A Marlins chalked up some wins and Sheffield proclaimed the dual meet “a great way to start the season.”

Matches consisted of 8-game pro sets.

Individuals scores are as follows:

Boys Doubles

Samuel Campbell and Christian Janosky won, 8-3.

Caden Meyer and Dexter Snyder won, 8-3.

Colton Taylor and Daniel Ruiz won, 8-0.

Girls Doubles

Sophia Buncie and Aryn Stuart won, 8-3.
