Talent, vendors needed for fair

Show off your talents, sell your crafts or just visit and enjoy at the Project Graduation 2010 Country Fair on Saturday, April 17. The event will feature an all-day fair and a Port Aransas Idol Contest.

Event organizers are still seeking craft vendors and Idol contestants for the fair, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Roberts Point Park.

A 10-foot square booth, including a six-foot, covered table, will cost vendors $25. To register, call Dede Smith, (361) 229-2330.

The Port Aransas Idol contest will be held the same day, with auditions at 9 a.m. and a final competition at 6 p.m.

Contestants must be at least 15 years old, amateur performers, and the talent or act must be appropriate for all audiences.

Judges’ decisions will be final and non-negotiable.

The grand prize is two recording studio days, worth $1,000 total, at Third Coast Studio, including an engineer and use of the studio to create a demo CD.

Entry fee is $20.

To register, go to www.portasouthjetty. com, click on the forms link on the left sidebar, then select Idol Contest. Print, fill out and mail the form by Saturday, April 10, to PAHS Project Graduation 2010, P.O. Box 543, Port Aransas TX 78373. Include a money order made out to the PAHS Project Graduation. Personal checks will not be accepted.

Alternatively, register on Facebook, then deliver the entry fee to the Brundrett Middle School office, on the corner of Ave. B and 10th St.

Number of entries is limited. You will be contacted by phone or e-mail on receipt of registration.

A wide variety of activities and entertainment are planned for the fair, including a Spam-off recipe contest, games, a sack race, a silent auction, a jump castle and more.

Vendor booths will set up all day, offering merchandise at the bazaar, including crafts, jewelry, glasswork, crocheted items, a dog-bathing booth, fishing products and more.

Traditional carnival games such as a duck pond, cupcake walk and face painting will be set up all day.

A silent auction will be part of the fun.

Proceeds from the event will go to Project Graduation, which raises funds annually for the party to be given for graduating seniors.

Students attending the party are “locked in” for the night, providing a safe, drug and alcohol-free celebration.

For more information, call Smith at (361) 229-2330.
