The Sigsbee Deep was the overall winner with 615.8 points in the 2022 Texas Women Anglers Tournament Friday through Sunday, Aug. 26 through 28.
The women-angler-only tournament is a billfish catch, video and release tournament held annually.
Anglers aboard 36 boats caught 41 billfish and brought tuna, wahoo and dorado to the weigh station at Fisherman’s Wharf, the tournament headquarters. Billfish totals included nine blue marlin, 29 sailfish and three white marlin.
The first-place boat caught and released one blue marlin, three sailfish and the first-place tuna.
Blue Rush was the second place winner with 609.15 points. The anglers caught and released one blue marlin, three sailfish and a 4.15-pound dorado.

The first-place blue marlin was hooked by Lindsey Pietsch aboard the Hook N Bull.

Lisa Green aboard the Walk West caught the first-place white marlin.
Taking the first-place sailfish honors were Jana Pawlick and Teresa Niestradt. They caught three sailfish.
The tournament also allows tuna, wahoo and dorado to be brought back to the dock for weigh-in.
Michelle Pilsner aboard the Sonora caught a 15.2-pound dorado to take first place in that category.
The second-place, 13.1-pound dorado was caught aboard the Fin Stalker by Jordan Soechting.
Catching the first-place wahoo was Brianna Hunter aboard the Backlash. The fish weighed in at 28.8 pounds.
Beth Wheeling aboard the Double E caught the 26.6-pound second-place wahoo.
Aboard the Sigsbee Deep, Marcy Kirtland landed the first-place 10.8-pound tuna.
The second- place tuna was caught by Catherine Cosper aboard the III Gotcha. It weighed 10.7 pounds.
In addition to awards and cash pots for billfish and meat fish, awards also were given for decorated boats and costumes.
Backlash was voted the best decorated with their rendition of the Wizard of Oz.
Anglers aboard Stabilized were voted wearing the best costumes.
The Rebecca received the award for the most original theme and the Sonora was the favorite among tournament organizers.
“We are grateful to our participants and sponsors for another successful year,” said a press release from the tournament organizers. “The tournament has raised $20,000 in donations to the Purple Door the past two years. We expect to be able to donate the same amount this year.”
The annual billfish tournament raises money to benefit the Purple Door, a nonprofit organization in Corpus Christi that provides services to victims and survivors or family violence and sexual assault throughout a 12-county area of South Texas.
