Sign up by Friday for golf tournament

The second annual Kiwanis Club Scholarship Golf Tournament has been improved and postponed.

Sponsors and teams are invited to participate in the tournament at Newport Dunes Golf Club on Sunday, Oct. 11.

The tournament will be a four-person scramble using USGA handicaps, which must total at least 42 for four players. A 1:30 p.m. shotgun start is scheduled.

Sign up deadline is Friday, Oct. 2.

The entry fee of $100 per player, down from $125, includes green fee, cart, range balls, dinner and prizes. The tournament is limited to the first 120 entries.

The top four teams will be awarded prizes, closest to the pin for men and women, and longest drive for men and women.

Drawings will be held for prizes including fishing trips, dinners, art, clothing and a variety of merchandise from island merchants.

A bonus has been added by the Newport Beach Golf Club, in that any individual who participates in three tournaments on that course will receive a complimentary round of golf.

The Newport Golf Club will cater the post-tournament dinner, with drinks provided by the Kiwanis Club. The band Alias Hart and Jones will play during dinner.

Entry checks should be made out to the Kiwanis Club of Port Aransas and sent to P.O. Box 591, Port Aransas, TX 78373.
