A new electronic sign, purchased through student council fundraisers, recently was installed at Brundrett Middle School.

The sign, which cost about $800, alerts students and teachers to who is having birthdays, what’s on the cafeteria’s menu, special events and other messages. Money for the sign was raised by the 2006-07 student council.

The 2007-2008 student council officers are Hazel Morris, president; John Amundsen, vice president; Anna Roberson, secretary; and Jocelyn Flood, treasurer. All are seventh graders except for Morris, who is in eighth grade.

Seventh grade class representatives are Alicia Smallwood, Chase Chambers, Tyler Pate, Cameron Martin and Maddison Shannon. Eighth grade representatives are Chris Eggleston, Connor Collins, Blue Shodrock, Taylor Griffin, Ben Scott, Matthew Fries and Meagan Hardegree.

Elections for sixth-grade class representatives are scheduled for Wednes- day, Oct. 10.

The student council raises money mostly by holding waffle breakfasts, dances and selling school supplies at a table in the cafeteria.

Councils usually decide how to spend accumulated funds in spring. They usually use it for school beautification. A bench and a mural are examples of past purchases.

In May, the student council will organize a luncheon where two eighth graders will be honored with the annual Jerry McDonald Citizenship Award.
