Sheepshead and tuna biting for those fishing in or around Port A

Tuna were biting for offshore anglers, while sheepshead were hitting for those fishing closer to shore, according to folks who work at waterfront businesses in Port Aransas.

At Fisherman’s Wharf, word is that yellowfin and blackfin tuna have been biting during offshore trips, said Nichole Evans, an employee.

People fishing on an offshore trip that went out from Friday, March 30, to Sunday, April 1, brought back 30 yellowfin tuna and 60 blackfin, she said.

Folks also have been bringing in dorado and barracuda, Evans said.

In state waters, anglers have been catching red snapper, kingfish, ling and black tip shark, said Susan Roberts, an employee at Deep Sea Headquarters.

On 8-hour offshore trips, anglers have been hooking Atlantic sharpnose shark, she said.

Those fishing in the bays have been reeling in gafftop, sand trout, drum and redfish, Roberts said.

At Dolphin Dock, word is that red snapper have been biting for folks fishing in state waters, said Chelsea Oestreich, an employee.

Anglers fishing offshore have been catching vermilion snapper, jack crevalle, strawberry grouper and African pompano, she said.

Sheepshead and gafftop have been biting for those fishing inshore, according to Oestreich.

Anglers fishing with private bay guides have been reeling in redfish and trout, said Tiffanie Youngblood, an employee at Woody’s Sports Center.

People fishing along the south jetty have been catching black drum, she said.

Black drum have been biting for those fishing in the part of the Aransas Pass that runs parallel to State Highway 361 on Harbor Island. Folks fishing on the south jetty have been hooking redfish and sheepshead, according to a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department fishing report.
