Roundup group gathering up toys

Port Aransas Emergency Services personnel are ready to take collections of new unwrapped toys and cash for the 18th annual Toy Roundup.

The EMS Toy Roundup consists of the Port Aransas EMS, fire and police departments working together to provide toys for more than 125 children and 50 families each year.

Applications for the Toy Roundup will be available through Friday, Dec. 11. The Toy Roundup is for children who are residents of Port Aransas up to the age of 18, and children of City of Port Aransas employees.

Applications must be fully completed as well as show proof of residency in Port Aransas. A receipt from a rent or utility bill with a Port Aransas zip code and identification with a Port Aransas address is required.

The goal of the annual toy drive is to ensure that every child in Port Aransas wakes up on Christmas morning with something special under the tree.

“The EMS Toy Roundup is funded strictly by donations from businesses and private citizens from all over the state of Texas and other parts of the country. The Toy Roundup also gives out two $1,000 scholarships each year to graduating seniors from Port Aransas High School,” said Tim McIntosh, Toy Roundup chairman.
