Ask tax appraisers here

Staff from the Nueces County Appraisal District will meet in Port Aransas with residents who have questions about property appraisal notices they recently received, said Robert Cenci, chief appraiser.

Appraisers will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, at the Brundrett Middle School gym to answer questions and try to resolve disputes about values assigned to properties, Cenci said. (The appraisal district at first set 5 p.m. as the closing time but later changed it to 4 p.m.)

The appraisal district is urging property owners to bring documentation and photos to support any points they want to make.

By attending the May 17 event, Port Aransas property owners can save themselves a trip to Corpus Christi. The appraisal district’s offices are in downtown Corpus Christi.

If they want to protest the amounts of their appraisals, property owners should fill out protest forms that should have come with their appraisal notices, Cenci said.

“This gets them on the record as having filed a written protest, creates a record in our system to meet our record keeping requirements and preserves their right to see the Appraisal Review Board if they cannot get things resolved (with staff),” Cenci said.

If a property owner doesn’t come to an agreement with staff, the owner automatically is scheduled for a hearing with the board. That typically is scheduled three to four weeks later, Cenci said.
