Powder Puff tourney scheduled Saturday

Landing prize-winning fish will be the goal of women anglers at the 2022 Powder Puff Ladies Fishing Tournament on Friday and Saturday, June 17 and 18.

Contestant registration is set for Friday beginning at 5 p.m. at Bernie’s Beach House, 730 Trout St.

The entry fee is $80 per angler, with a maximum of four women to a team. All women on each boat must be registered contestants.

The competitors meeting will begin after registration is completed.

One or more members from each team must be present as rules will be explained and may be altered.

The tournament has two divisions, amateur or pro-am. A team is considered pro-am if anyone on the boat or team has guided for hire within in the last two years or if the team is using a guide.

Amateur teams may fish in the pro-am division. However, the teams must participate in the Calcutta and will not be eligible for pots or prizes in the amateur division.

Fishing will begin at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Target fish for the tournament are speckled sea trout between 17 and 23 inches, black drum, flounder, hardhead and redfish between 20 and 28 inches and spot pot, which is redfish between 20 and 28 inches with the most spots.

Trophies will be awarded for the heaviest catches in the various target fish categories.

The amateur division will fish for trophies and pot money in the target fish and spot pot as well as the heaviest stringer.

The pro-am division will fish for trophies, spot pot and Calcutta bidding money.

The women anglers must catch fish on a rod and reel and must hook and retrieve their own fish. Any fish hooked by a non-contestant is disqualified and should be released. Men may run the boat, cast, bait hooks, net fish and serve refreshments to the anglers.

Weigh-in will open at the Fred Rhodes Memorial Pavilion at Roberts Point Park at noon. All contestants must be in line with their catches by 3 p.m.
