Police Blotter


Information in this column was gleaned from Port Aransas Police Department records and interviews with department personnel. Everyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Monday, Aug. 14

1:04 a.m. • A 32-year-old woman having severe stomach pain was transported by EMS to a Portland hospital from the 100 block of East Cotter Avenue.

Tuesday, Aug. 15

10:43 a.m. • A hit-and-run was reported at a business in the 2300 block of State Highway 361. A security gate box was knocked off by a vehicle.

Wednesday, Aug. 16

2:55 a.m. • Officers checked on a running vehicle parked at a gas station in the 3400 block of State Highway 361 with a woman unconscious in the driver’s seat. A 40-year-old Buda woman was arrested and charged on two counts of possession of a controlled substance and public intoxication. Officers found 3.66 grams of methamphetamine and 6 grams of mushrooms in her vehicle.

1:49 p.m. • Officers stopped a motorist driving a golf cart in the 600 block Banyan Beach Drive for running other vehicles off the road. A 13-year-old was issued a citation for driving without a driver’s license.

Thursday, Aug. 17

12:49 p.m. • A bicycle valued at $400 was reported taken from a garage at a home in the 300 block of South Station Street.

2:43 p.m. • A man reported to police that his ex-girlfriend attempted to take his dog while he was with his dog in the 200 block of West Cotter Avenue.

3:29 p.m. • A Yeti cooler valued at $250 was reported taken from the bed of a truck parked at a home in the 200 block of Bent Grass Drive.

Friday, Aug. 18

12:54 p.m. • A criminal trespass warning was issued to a man who attempted to steal items from a store in the 3400 block of State Highway 361.

11:08 p.m. • A criminal trespass warning was issued to a man for using facility showers without permission from RV park staff at an RV park near the 600 Mile Marker of State Highway 361.

11:20 p.m. • Officers responded to a disturbance at a home in the 600 block of Sand Key Drive. A man and a woman both had cuts and bruises, and each told police they were fighting the other in self-defense. Police are filing charges on both for assault causing bodily injury.

Saturday, Aug. 19

2:47 a.m. • A 43-year-old Port Aransas woman was arrested in the 200 block of North Alister Street on a Nueces County warrant charging her with terroristic threats.

8:42 a.m. • A rearview window to a vehicle was reported broken with damage valued at $500. The vehicle was in a parking lot in the 500 block of Avenue G.

6:31 p.m. • A motorcycle hit a curb and fell over at 11th Street and Park Place. The driver was transported by EMS to a Corpus Christi hospital with a cut foot.

7:02 p.m. • A 60-year-old woman who had a possible heart attack was transported by EMS to a Corpus Christi hospital from the south jetty.

7:44 p.m. • Officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a condo in the 1600 block of South Station Street. A 40-year-old Midland man was arrested and charged with public intoxication.

10:55 p.m. • Officers stopped a vehicle for speeding at State Highway 361 and Royal Sands Boulevard. The driver, a 37-year-old San Antonio man, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and unlawful carry of a weapon. A passenger, a 37-year-old San Antonio man, was arrested and charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest. When the passenger was being detained, he pulled away from the officer. Police also found a gun in the vehicle.

Sunday, Aug. 20

2:20 a.m. • A man reported to police he was punched in the face by an unknown person at a condo in the 200 block of Cut-off Road. The man had an abrasion and swelling on his right cheek. The suspect left the location, and officers could not locate them.

6:52 p.m. • Officers responded to a report of a man lying underneath a golf cart behind a business in the 400 block of South Alister Street. The 68-year-old homeless man was deceased. Police believe he died from a medical issue, according to Sgt. Joseph Rivas with the Port Aransas Police Department. Police do not know why he was underneath a golf cart. No name was released, pending notification of next-of-kin.

9:35 p.m. • Officers responded to a report of an intoxicated man at a restaurant in the 800 block of Trout Street. A 49-year-old Port Aransas man was arrested and charged with public intoxication.
