Police Blotter


Information in this column was gleaned from Port Aransas Police Department records and interviews with department personnel. Everyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Monday, Jan. 16

12 p.m. • Four people returned to a store in the 1800 block of State Highway 361 after they were caught attempting to steal the night before. Police issued them criminal trespass warnings.

6:58 p.m. • Police stopped a vehicle for expired registration in the 1800 block of State Highway 361. Officers smelled marijuana so they did a probable search of the vehicle. A bag of marijuana and a handgun were found. A 29-year-old San Antonio man was arrested and charged with unlawful carry of a weapon. A 30-year-old San Antonio man was arrested on a Bexar County warrant charging him with probation violation. The 30-year-old man was also charged with failure to identify by giving false information, tampering with evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia. The man had given police a fake name, and officers found more marijuana under his shorts.

Tuesday, Jan. 17

12:53 p.m. • Officers responded to a report of a possibly intoxicated driver near the ferry landing. Police found and followed the vehicle. They stopped the vehicle after it struck a curb on Beach Access Road 1 near Sunrise Avenue. The driver, a 36-year-old Ingleside man, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.

11:43 p.m. • Officers responded to a report of a driver attempting to run into other drivers at the ferry landing. The driver was deemed a danger to herself and was transported to a Corpus Christi hospital for a mental evaluation.

Thursday, Jan. 19

8:11 a.m. • Officers responded to an argument between two men at an RV park in the 500 block of 10th Street. One man had struck the other in the face. A 23-year-old Port Aransas man was arrested and charged with assault family violence.

Friday, Jan. 20

1:39 p.m. • Officers took a report from a man at an RV park. He said his sister had verbally threatened their parents. She reportedly told her parents she was going to shoot them after they told her she could no longer stay in their RV.

Saturday, Jan. 21

6:54 p.m. • Officers responded to a report of a vehicle doing donuts near Pole 6 on the beach. Police did not find the vehicle.

Sunday, Jan. 22

11:25 a.m. • Officers retrieved a handgun that was left by a guest at a hotel in the 400 block of West Cotter Avenue. Police took the gun to the police station and contacted the owner to come pick it up.
