Police Blotter

Information in this column was gleaned from Port Aransas Police Department records and interviews with department personnel. Everyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Monday, Oct. 24

1:33 a.m. • Officers arrested a 33-year-old Port Aransas man, charging him with public intoxication. The man was standing outside of an apartment unit in the 2700 block of State Highway 361.

2:21 a.m. • A man and woman took beer without paying for it at a convenience store in the 3500 block of State Highway 361. They gave the beer back to the store clerk.

8:07 a.m. • Officers responded to a report of a suspicious person in the 100 block of Avenue G. A man was lying asleep in the grass.

Tuesday, Oct. 25

9:29 a.m. • A woman reported her Toyota Yaris was stolen near Pole 5 on the beach. Her vehicle was not stolen; she had forgotten where she parked it.

3:20 p.m. • Officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at a business in the 2300 block of State Highway 361. The driver was taking a break in his vehicle from working.

8:48 p.m. • Officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at a business in the 2200 block of State Highway 361. The driver had permission from the property owner to be there.

10:59 p.m. • Officers arrested a 50-year-old woman and charged her with possession of drug paraphernalia. Two methamphetamine pipes were found in her vehicle during a traffic stop in the 2600 block of State Highway 361.

Wednesday, Oct. 26

10:54 a.m. • A truck was parked on the sidewalk near the intersection of Alister Street and East Cotter Avenue. Officers told the driver to move his vehicle.

12:04 p.m. • A woman delivering mail called police for a welfare check on a homeowner when no one was answering the door in the 300 block of East Cotter Avenue. The homeowner had fallen. She was treated by Emergency Medical Services. She was not taken to a hospital.

5:38 p.m. • The passenger window was broken on a vehicle parked at the ferry landing on Harbor Island.

Thursday, Oct. 27

7:25 a.m. • An unlocked vehicle was burglarized overnight in the 500 block of Sand Burr Lane. A toolbox was taken.

7:29 a.m. • Officers responded to a report of a suspicious person wearing a ski mask and a long sleeve sweater looking into vehicles and houses in the 300 block of South Gulf Street. Officers found a 16-year-old Corpus Christi resident walking and gave her a citation for possession of tobacco.

8:15 a.m. • A woman was sitting on the porch of a home that wasn’t hers in the 500 block of South Gulf Street and refused to leave. Officers issued her a criminal trespass warning. The woman later came back to the property and the homeowner called police. By the time officers arrived, the woman had left.

9:43 a.m. • A debit card was reported taken from an unlocked vehicle at an apartment complex in the 1200 block of South Station Street.

11:11 a.m. • Change, a tote bag and keys were reported taken from an unlocked vehicle in the 1100 block of Whispering Sands Street.

3:17 p.m. • Officers responded to an argument between a mother and son at a home in the 500 block of South Gulf Street. The son, a 17-year-old resident, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

5:22 p.m. • A man reported his phone and tablet were taken from his vehicle in the 300 block of South Alister Street by his ex-girlfriend. She later returned the property.

Friday, Oct. 28

1:47 p.m. • A Ford truck rear-ended a Ford Explorer when the Explorer stopped at a red light in the 3400 block of State Highway 361. No injuries were reported.

3:37 p.m. • Officers took a report of a shattered glass sliding door on the second story of a home in the 500 block of Lantana Drive.

5:35 p.m. • A golf cart valued at $10,000 was reported stolen from a driveway at a home in the 200 block of East Avenue E. The golf cart was found the next day, Saturday, Oct. 29, near Pole 40 on the beach. The license plate was taken off the golf cart, and the cart was vandalized with spray paint.

6:36 p.m. Officers made a traffic stop for a failed brake light in the 400 block of South Cut-Off Road. The two men in the car both had warrants out for their arrest. A 20-year-old San Antonio man was arrested on a warrant out of Bexar County charging him with assault of a pregnant woman. A 22-year-old San Antonio man was arrested on a warrant out of Bexar County charging him with assault family violence.

Saturday, Oct. 29

3:37 a.m. • A woman reported to police that when she was sleeping, she heard a knock on the door at her apartment unit in the 2700 block of State Highway 361. She answered the door because she thought her friend had come by. Another woman she did not know entered the apartment without permission. The intruder started opening cabinets. The woman who made the report started yelling at the intruder, who eventually left.

4:36 a.m. • Officers responded to a report of an argument between a man and woman at a hotel in the 1900 block of State Highway 361. When police arrived, they made contact with the man who was standing outside. He had a strong odor of alcohol. The 65-year-old Austin man was arrested and charged with public intoxication.

9:57 a.m. • Two ladders, bar stools and a TV mount with a total value of $500 were reported stolen from a home in the 2500 block of 11th Street.

12:11 p.m. • A man reported to police that a woman entered his truck without his consent and took his work checkbook at a bar in the 1000 block of State Highway 361. The truck was unlocked.

8:37 p.m. • Officers made contact with a man and a woman in a parked vehicle at a convenience store because the vehicle was missing a front license plate. The passenger, a 53-year-old Corpus Christi woman, was arrested on a Nueces County warrant charging her with possession of a controlled substance.

Oct. 30, Sunday

11:49 a.m. • A woman reported that when she got back to her parked golf cart after walking down the jetty, the golf cart was tipped over. She had rented the golf cart.

1:34 p.m. • A dog that was tied up in a yard in the 100 block of South Gulf Street was attacked by a neighbor’s dog that was loose.

3:39 p.m. • A man was moving furniture into his new apartment in the 2700 block of State Highway 361 and was taking pictures from the outside. Two men from a next-door apartment questioned him why he was taking pictures. The man who took the pictures told them it was none of their business and an argument started. The man who took the pictures told police the other two men threatened him. One of the two men said they did not threaten him.

7:56 p.m. • Officers responded to a report of a fight at a restaurant in the 800 block of Trout Street. When police arrived, they didn’t locate the disturbance.

8:35 p.m. • Officers made a traffic stop when a driver failed to use a turn signal in the 400 block of Avenue G. The driver had no valid car insurance, and the license plates were phony. A 44-year-old Gibson, Louisiana man was arrested and charged with display of fictitious license plates.
