Police Blotter

Information in this column was gleaned from Port Aransas Police Department records and interviews with department personnel. Everyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Monday, April 18

3:40 p.m. • A 27-year-old man from Aransas Pass was arrested for assault causing bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor, that was reported at Cut-off Road and Avenue C. The arrest came when police caught up with a man and a woman in the ferry line. The woman had a sizable cut on the side of her nose and her right cheek bone was showing a darkening bruise. She told police the man back-handed her twice in the face.

7:13 p.m. • An officer watched a man who looked intoxicated in the parking lot of a restaurant in the 400 block of Cut-off Road enter the restaurant and place an order at the register. The officer saw the man pocket a set of keys that were hanging on the wall next to the register, then leave the restaurant. The officer followed the man into the parking lot, and when the officer reported the incident to the owner of the keys, the owner did not want to file charges. The 20-year-old man from San Antonio was arrested for PI (public intoxication).

Tuesday, April 19

2:15 a.m. • A man requested a criminal trespass warning be issued on a woman, who was intoxicated and having trouble maintaining her balance. She had been knocking on the door of his RV in the 300 block of Cotter Avenue. The 44-year-old woman from Port Aransas arrested for PI and cited for criminal trespass.

7:15 p.m. • A Jeep was damaged when someone allegedly rammed it, causing it to hit a beam of the house in the 1900 block of Eskridge. The back window of the Jeep was shattered, and the rear bumper and door latch were heavily damaged. Total damage was estimated at $6,000. The criminal investigation division is investigating possible video of the event before issuing a warrant or making an arrest.

Wednesday, April 20

7:08 p.m. • A vehicle at Pole 25 On the Beach had been abandoned for five days by its owner who decided to go to a homeless shelter, according to a family member contacted by police.

Thursday, April 21

10:56 a.m. • Police are looking for the person who took checks from a residence in the 400 block of East Avenue E and used them to write $3,000 in forged checks. Payments were stopped and the theft is under investigation.

1:54 p.m. • A golf cart rental company in the 300 block of Sea Isle Drive discovered a golf cart missing when doing inventory. A U-Haul rental company in Austin called the golf cart company to say the cart had been located in the rear of a cargo truck that had been repossessed. The PAPD criminal investigation division is looking into the situation.

9:21 p.m. • An X-box and five games were report stolen from a motel in the 100 block of South Alister Street. However, it appears a motel guest let someone in the room, leading to the disappearance of the property. The incident is under investigation.

Friday, April 22

1:18 a.m. • A 21-year-old man from Port Aransas who was making his way from one bar to another was arrested for PI when he was found stumbling around at the corner of Alister Street and Cotter Avenue.

3:43 a.m. Whether it was an assault or a fall remains to be seen. A woman said she was assaulted by her boyfriend at a motel in the 600 block of West Cotter Avenue, and when he left, she followed him to the ferry landing. But her boyfriend said she slipped and fell. Either way, she suffered a cut to the bridge of her nose. The criminal investigation division is following up to determine what really happened.

12:27 p.m. • Someone broke porch lights and a rear window at a residence in the 100 block of Oleander Street. The homeowner reported the criminal mischief happened between April 1 and 22. Value of the window was estimated at $150, and the porch lights were valued at $250. There are no suspects.

6:15 p.m. • A license plate on a Toyota Tundra pickup was reported stolen in the 300 block of Alister Street between Wednesday and Friday, April 20 and 22.

Saturday, April 23

8:51 a.m. • A golf cart was reported stolen in the 3400 block of South 11th Street. It was valued at $10,000 and has been entered into the state data base for missing or stolen property.

9:20 a.m. • A citation for driving 70 mph in a 55-mph speed zone was issued to a 27-year-old man from Corpus Christi who was behind the wheel of a maroon and gold pickup in the 5900 block of State Highway 361.

6:33 p.m. • A $600 laptop was taken from a vehicle in the 800 block of Trout Street. There were no signs of forced entry, but the driver told police he heard the horn go off when he locked the vehicle. Police are waiting for more information before entering the laptop in the state data base.

8:34 p.m. • A highly intoxicated 16-year-old juvenile near a business in the 100 block of East White Street was taken to Aransas Pass at the request of his mother. She couldn’t get there in time to meet him, so the EMS was called. He was charged with minor in possession of alcohol and minor in consumption of alcohol.

10:08 p.m. • A 40-year-old man from Spring was arrested for PI in the 200 block of East Cotter Avenue. A woman with him who was slightly intoxicated was reportedly running into traffic. The man was extremely intoxicated and couldn’t stand without help. He was not compliant and was arrested. The woman, who was compliant with police, was allowed to return to her motel room.

10:53 p.m. • A third-degree felony possession of a controlled substance charge was filed on a 25-year-old man from Austin when officers checked out at Pole 10 On the Beach. Police noticed a vehicle that was stuck at an emergency entrance between the bollards. When an officer went to help, he noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the man and woman standing next to the vehicle. A glass smoking pipe was visible on the driver’s seat, and the man admitted it was his. Police also found THC wax in the vehicle.

11:58 p.m. • A 43-year-old man from Corpus Christi was charged with third- degree felony possession of a controlled substance in the 300 block of South Alister Street. Three vials of THC wax were found in the man’s room. The man told police he saw someone in the bed of a truck at the motel staring at him. No one was found in the bed of a truck, and the man admitted to smoking a lot of THC.

Sunday, April 24

1:32 a.m. • A 37-year-old man from New Braunfels is facing a charge of DWI after police observed a golf cart parked within inches of a motel fence the 200 block of Cotter Avenue. The man with the cart admitted he was intoxicated and had driven from a bar to the motel. He was unable to pass field sobriety tests and agreed to give a blood specimen.

5:03 p.m. • A 19-year-old woman from Marble Falls and an 18-year-old man from Round Rock were arrested for PI and possession of drug paraphernalia at Pole 37 on the beach. The pair reportedly had been crawling around on the beach in traffic, but were sitting in a vehicle when police arrived. Both were completely covered in sand and the woman was unsteady on her feet as she approached an officer. The man was asleep inside the vehicle and was obviously highly intoxicated. Police deemed both were a danger to themselves and others. Some marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in the vehicle.

9:37 p.m. • A 40-year-old man from Spring became angry when his female companion wouldn’t go out to dinner with him, and a verbal altercation ensued. He was “completely uncooperative” when police arrived at the motel in the 200 block of East Cotter Avenue, and the woman appeared uneasy if he was left with her, so he was arrested for PI.
