Police Blotter

Information in this column was gleaned from Port Aransas Police Department records and interviews with department personnel. Everyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Monday, Feb. 21

8:38 A.M. Police responded to a report of fraud in the 1300 block of Whispering Sands Street. A man said someone else had cashed a check he wrote for an employee in December 2020 and only realized it this year when an accountant brought it to his attention.

Tuesday, Feb. 22

11:18 A.M. A man reported he was walking his dog when a German shepherd attacked it and shook his dog violently in the 600 block of Lantana Drive. The man later took his dog to the vet. The incident reportedly took place on Feb. 12.

1:03 P.M. Officers are investigating an assault that was reported in the 100 block of West Cotter Avenue. The victim said her husband slapped her in the face at a bar before leaving. The slap caused a bruise under her left eye.

1:13 P.M. Police arrested a man for warrants out of Missouri and for criminal mischief in the 200 block of On the Beach. The man reportedly damaged pairs of shoes in a store.

Wednesday, Feb. 23

9:32 A.M. A man reportedly couldn’t catch a stray Siamese cat in a building he owned in the 300 block of South Alister Street. Animal Control later impounded the cat.

Thursday, Feb. 24

2:46 A.M. The EMS responded to a report of an elderly woman who wouldn’t wake up in the 500 block of Lydia Ann Channel. They transported the woman to Corpus Christi Medical Center Bay Area.

6:41 P.M. Police responded to an accident near the Port Aransas city limits on State Highway 361. One vehicle reportedly hit the rear bumper of another one while both were traveling south. No injuries were reported.

Friday, Feb. 25

6:34 P.M. Police arrested a San Antonio man for tampering with government records in the 500 block of South Alister Street. The man reportedly was driving with a washed-out temporary license plate that was expired and registered with another vehicle.

9:34 P.M. Officers arrested a Waco man for warrants out of Waco in the 200 block of Beach Street. They initially pulled his vehicle over after they reportedly saw him speeding and turning without a signal.

10:14 P.M. A Portland man was arrested by police for multiple drug charges and parole warrants at Gulf Street and Avenue C. Police initially pulled his vehicle over after he reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign. They took him into custody after identifying him and confirming his parole warrants. While searching his vehicle, police found a black bag under the passenger seat. Inside the bag was one gram of Adderall, 36 grams of powdered heroin, 88.76 grams of anabolic steroids and 49.79 grams of marijuana. Along with the parole warrants, the man is facing alleged charges of the manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, a first-degree felony, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, which are third-degree felonies, and the manufacture and delivery of marijuana, a state jail felony. Police are still investigating the case.

Saturday, Feb. 26

12:44 P.M. The EMS responded to a report of a person having a possible allergic reaction in the 800 block of Trout Street. They transported the person to ER 24/7 Portland.

Sunday, Feb. 27

2:41 A.M. A person reportedly was suffering from an overdose and wasn’t breathing in the 300 block of Ninth Street. The EMS transported the person to ER 24/7 Portland. The report didn’t say what the person might have overdosed on.

7:51 A.M. Police arrested a man from Port Aransas for trespassing in the 400 block of South Alister Street. He reportedly had received a trespass warning from the same property in January.
