A game on Friday, April 22, will decide whether the Port Aransas High School Lady Marlins softball team will get into the playoffs.

The game will be played at 6 p.m. in Kenedy.

An 11-7 win over Yorktown on Monday, April 18, was “a big win for us,” said James Sheffield, coach of the Lady Marlins.

Port Aransas led the hard-fought game for a while until Kenedy tied the game up at 7-7.

But the Lady Marlins held on, scoring four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win it.

“The girls kept fighting,” Sheffield said.

Port Aransas next fell to Falls City, 0-10, on Thursday, April 14.

“Errors – we made a ton of them,” Sheffield said. “…Falls City is a really good team, but we made entirely too many mistakes on defense.”

The Lady Marlins’ pitching was fine, but they didn’t get enough outs to give themselves a chance in the game, the coach said.
