Event will raise money for Animal Friends

An event to celebrate the opening of the city’s new dog park also will serve as a fundraiser for the non-profit Animal Friends of Port Aransas.

The celebration will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the dog park, a fenced enclosure near the skate area at Port Aransas Community Park. The dog park opened Sept. 23.

A ribbon cutting will be held at 10 a.m. For a touch of Halloween, a dog costume contest will take place at 10:30 a.m.

Hotdogs, chips, cookies and drinks will be sold.

Prizes will be awarded for the winners of children’s games.

Folks can have identifying microchips implanted in their cats and dogs.

All activities will cost something, with proceeds going to Animal Friends of Port Aransas.

The group’s mission is to keep conditions comfortable at the city’s animal shelter and provide for the health and wellbeing of Port Aransas pets in general.

Live and silent auctions will be conducted. A dog trainer will be on hand to offer tips on how to persuade pooches to comply with commands.
