Top spots were won by Port Aransas High School runners at a meet in Goliad on Saturday, Sept. 30.

The boys’ varsity and JV teams took first places at the event.

Will Carlough, of the varsity team, won first place for his individual performance. The JV’s Elijah Cabrera also nabbed first-place honors for how he ran.

“Our kids ran very well this weekend,” said Steve Reaves, coach of PAHS cross-country teams. “This was a new course in Goliad at the state park, so it was a fun course for the kids.”

It was their last race before the district meet, scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 11, at West Guth Park in Corpus Christi.

“It’s the right time of year to start running well,” Reaves said. “The kids have worked hard all year to get to (this) part of the season. We will continue to work on speed in practice and start tapering for the big meets. The kids should be primed to run well at the right time.”
