PAEF will award grants on Friday

More than $50,000 in grants will be awarded to employees of the Port Aransas Independent School District tomorrow, Friday, April 3.

The public is invited to attend the presentations at 2:15 p.m. in the Doyle Marek Gym at Port Aransas High School. Representatives from all three campuses will attend.

Awarding the grants will be the Port Aransas Education Foundation, which last year presented more than $48,000 in grants to school employees. The grants were to pay for teacher training, computer equipment and software, educational field trips, library books and more. Purchases ranged from musical instruments for elementary school students to an educational weather station that was installed atop Port Aransas High School.

The foundation funded slightly more than $21,000 in grants to Port Aransas schools in 2007. PAEF was formed in 2006 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising money to award grants for programs and items not funded in school budgets.

“The Port Aransas Education Foundation works hard all year to make the grant ceremony as successful as possible. Our success comes from this great community and generous donors. We are committed to our school district and hope that the grants awarded will continue to benefit our children and employees of PAISD,” said Janice Roberts, president of the PAEF.

The foundation is off to a good start for next year with the receipt of its first grant for $2,500 from the Earl C. Sams Foundation of Corpus Christi.

“We continue to try and find outside sources for our donations because we realize that our small community is constantly ask to give,” Roberts said.
