Theatre students advance

The Port Aransas High School theatre kids are pumped up after advancing to area for their One Act Play UIL performance at the district competition in Bruni on Thursday, March 27.

The cast and crew will present playwright and author Beth Henley’s “The Miss Firecracker Contest” at the area competition on April 11 at Bishop High School in Bishop.

Danny Reyes, the PAHS theatre director, said the play is about the “wacky trials and tribulations of a dysfunctional southern family as its youngest member prepares to enter the upcoming annual Miss Firecracker Contest.”

Emma Shannon, Morgan Milligan and Aaron Kenigsberg received recognition on the all star district cast and Varsha Patel earned an honorable mention on the all star cast.

Other members of the cast include Alison Gallegos, Hunter Frost, Brooklyn

McCellon and Aly Lipman. Crewmembers are B.J. Grimes, Dutch Honsinger, Gabe Tharpe and Mathew Allen. Alternates for the play are Lindsey Uhlik, Corbin Minnick and Elliot Morris.
