New art center opens at First Friday

Make plans to attend the first First Friday reception in the Port Aransas Art Center’s new facility, 104 N. Alister St., on Friday, Aug. 4.

 

 

Tour the new building while enjoying light hors d’oeuvres, wine and live music from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Participants also may meet the artists chosen as the merit winners at the annual Tiddle Caylor All Member Show held in March.

The first, second and third place winners respectively, Amy Sullivan, Mike Caitlin and Sally Mitchell, will have their artwork on display throughout the month of August.

The 2017 People’s Choice winner, Nancy Buskey, will have her work displayed throughout the month as well.

Classes and workshops will resume on Tuesday, Aug. 8. See the art center calendar in this issue for the schedule of classes.

The public is invited to a celebration of the new art center’s opening on Saturday, Sept. 30, from 5 to 10:30 p.m.

A street dance is planned with live music by Latin Talk, barbecue with all the fixings catered by Rudy’s Barbecue; beer, wine and margaritas and, of course, dancing. In addition, quick draw artists will complete works during the event and a live auction will be held.

Tickets to the event are $50 per person and are available at the art center or by calling (361) 749-1816.

 

 

The art center is a 501(c) (3) organization formed in 1995. More than 225 member artists display their works in the gallery and gift shop.
