May 1 fishing report

With waters warming up, the trout are biting, according to some folks who work along the Port Aransas waterfront.

Sharon Keehlisen of Woody’s Sports Center said catches of speckled trout have been picking up along channel shorelines and in the surf.

Bay guides have been finding black drum and redfish, she said.

Folks also are catching sheepsheaad along the jetties, whiting in the surf and gafftop from piers, Keehlisen said.

Offshore, anglers are hooking amberjack, barracuda, shark and kingfish, she said.

At Dolphin Dock, Gary Walker said offshore catches lately have tended toward vermilion snapper, amberjack and ling.

At Deep Sea Headquarters, Hollyn Cook Chapman said anglers have been getting into vermilion snapper, Atlantic sharpnose shark and blacktip shark.

Eddie Sheppard at Fisherman’s Wharf said he saw a big load of black drum brought in recently.

Now, let’s get out there and fish!
