The Marlins played in Refugio on Tuesday, March 17, warming to their triple-header in San Antonio the following Saturday. (See related story.)
Marlin Chase Denton would hit a solid grounder for an RBI in the first inning, bringing Logan Kreutziger home, 1-0.
The Bobcats didn’t stay down for long though. At the bottom of the second inning the Refugio team scored one run and would rally in the fourth inning, scoring on an error and two singles. One last run by the Bobcats in the fifth inning put the score at 6-1. Both teams went scoreless in the final innings.
“We really played well for a while,” coach James Garrett said. “We made too many errors against a good team and they made us pay for it.”Marlin Hank Brennan was the losing pitcher for the Marlins.
“We didn’t feel completely overmatched,” Garrett said. “We’re looking forward to another shot at them.”
