The Marlins baseball team ended their season as bi-district champs after a tough playoff series against Center Point in Pearsall on Friday and Saturday, May 9 and 10.

In game one on Friday, the team had a tough time catching up to the velocity of the game and only mustered up two hits, giving Big Blue a final score of 1-6. coach James Garrett said.

However, defense played very well and Nick Maxham pitched a good game despite walking nine batters, he said.

“When you walk that many, you expect to really get beat badly, but Nick battled all game long and really gave us a chance,” Garrett said.

On Saturday, the Marlins played its best game of the year, Garrett said.

The Pirates got the best of the Port Aransas team 7-2, but the ball players fought for every inch they got, Garrett said.

“Pitcher Hank Brennan showed why he could be an ace for us next year and the year after. He located his pitches down in the zone, and if you live there, you won’t get hurt. He held them (Pirates) to one earned run over seven innings of play and also went three for three with three singles at the plate,” Garrett said.

“I feel like we accomplished a lot this year. You made this a very enjoyable first year for our coaching staff and me. The hard work that you put in this year paid big dividends and it will continue to pay off as we continue this journey of growing and playing baseball together. Thank you all again for all that you put into this season,” he said.
