Library gets $50,000 grant

A $50,000 grant has been awarded to help the Ellis Memorial Library in Port Aransas expand, according to a news release issued by City Hall.

The grant came from the Tocker Foundation, which partners with small and rural library communities serving populations of 12,000 or less.

“Through this grant, our library will be able to fund some of the shelving and furniture for the new library expansion project,” the news release said.

Located at 700 W. Ave. A, the library building is 5,221 square feet in size. Work on a 3,300-square-foot expansion is expected to begin this year.

The expansion will enhance the children’s, teens’ and computer areas. Also included will be two study rooms and a special collections room to house local history and Texana materials.
