Lady Marlins take on Shiner at area

Game will be in Port Lavaca at 7 p.m. Friday

Lady Marlins basketball team, ranked

playoff run with a game against the

Shiner Lady Comanches.

The game, which wil l decide the

area championship, will be at 7 p.m.

the Brackett High School Tigerettes

of Brackettville, 53-42, on Tuesday,

Feb. 13.

The Lady Comanches had a record

of 14-18 after their latest win – not

nearly as good as the Lady Marlins’

rec or d of 30-5. But L ad y Marl i ns

Shiner.

real well Tuesday against Brackett,”

Henderson said, “and we’re going to

have to come ready to play, because

the y’re pla ying at the top of th eir

game right now.”

The Lady Comanches have good

team chem istry and depth, wit h 10

players on their roster, according to

their coach, Cari Lynn Siegel.

“We’re just real excited to be in

the playoffs right now,” Siegel said.

“We struggled the last couple of years. This is my third year here. I’m just

trying to establish a program right

now. We’re just taking it one game

at a time.”

regional quarter finals for an as-yet

Wednesday or Thursday, Feb. 21 or

22. That game will be against the

winner of the Pettus – Flatonia game

that will be played on Friday.

The regional semi-finals are scheduled

for Friday, Feb. 23, with regional

finals the next day. The state tournament

in Austin is March 1-3.

The Lady Marlins, who at this writing

were ranked second in the state

among Class 1-A Division I teams,

schedule a warm-up game between

the last game of the regular season and

the beginning of the playoffs.

Somerset is co-champion of District

27-3A.

“This was a good warm-up game

for us leading into the playoffs,” Henderson

said. “Somerset was a solid

defensive team who did not give us

many open looks at the basket.”

Whitney Williams scored 22 points.

Kathy Ashley hit three 3-pointers, and

Lia Phillips scored two threes.

“Our defense was solid most of the

game,” Henderson said. “I think we

are ready to give the regional playoffs

our best shot.”
