Lady Marlins take down Charlotte for regionals spot

The Lady Marlin softball team is advancing to the regional quarterfinals round of playoffs after area victories against the Charlotte High School Lady Trojans on Friday and Saturday, May 8 and 9.

The Lady Marlins put up a close win in Charlotte during their first game, 5-4, and shutout the Lady Trojans at home during their second game, 6-0.

“This series was the best our team has played on defense all year,” coach Jonathan Sheffield said. “We made routine plays all weekend with some great plays mixed in.”

The Lady Marlins will play the Benavides High School Lady Eagles, who are ranked third by the Texas Girls Association, in Kingsville on Friday, May 15, at 6 p.m., and on Saturday, May 16, at 4 p.m.

“Offensively, we had a great approach throughout the entire series,” Sheffield said. “We got production from every batter in the line-up.”

Lindsey Uhlik was the winning pitcher for the first game against Charlotte, striking out four Lady Trojans and giving up three hits. Julie Johnson was the winning pitcher for the second game, striking out 11 Lady Trojans and giving up four hits.
