The Lady Marlins couldn’t be stopped at their first district game of the season on Friday, Jan. 3, in Woodsboro.

Woodsboro High School’s Lady Eagles weren’t seen soaring high in the skies that night after the 2A team was overpowered 59-38 by the Lady Marlins.

The first quarter, the Marlin ladies were up by three points and by half time, they had gained another 16, putting them in the lead by five points.

“We have been playing extremely well in third quarters of recent games and tonight was not any different. We knew that would be the point where we could really pull away,” coach Stephanie Cowen said.

The third quarter marked another 16 points for the Lady Marlins and by the fourth, they had the game in the bag, cutting another 17 points.

“We know that with our scoring power we are going to see multiple wrinkles on defense from opponents. We have to do a better job of taking what the defense give us and not forcing on the offensive end,” Cowen said.

Both varsity and junior varsity played their second district game in Ben Bolt on Tuesday, Jan. 7, and will play Benavides before a homecoming crowd on Friday, Jan. 10.
