Mark your calendars and join other volunteers to help clean up the beach in Port Aransas on Saturday, April 23.
The annual Spring Beach Cleanup sponsored by the Texas General Land Office (GLO) was set for Saturday, April 9. Due to Texas SandFest taking place April 8 through 10, Keep Port Aransas Beautiful, the Port Aransas host, moved the cleanup to April 23.
Those wishing to take part in the cleanup should meet at the beach at Avenue G before 9 a.m. to check-in and be assigned an area to clean.
Volunteers should wear sunscreen, bug repellent, a cap or hat and closed-toe shoes. They also should bring plenty of drinking water.
Upon check-in, volunteers will be given trash bags, data cards, pencils and disposable gloves.
The cleanup will take place, rain or shine, organizers say.
“The data collected from the beach cleanups played an integral part in the passage of an international treaty that prohibits the dumping of plastics in the world’s oceans,” said a press release from the GLO.
