More than 100 children took part in the 32nd annual Coastal Conservation Association’s Take a Kid Fishing tournament in Port Aransas on Friday and Saturday, June 5 and 6.

Designed to teach kids the skills and pleasures of fishing, the event was headquartered at Woody’s Sports Center.

Clockwise from upper left: Landon Caylor, 5, of Port Aransas, holds what ended up being the contest’s winning redfish; from left, Hazel Hunter, 6, of Austin, Sophia Childress, 6, of Cedar Park and Hazel’s father, Wes Hunter, chow down at a shrimp boil held as part of the tournament on Friday; 6-year-old Minnesota resident Peyton Gayhart, granddaughter of Aaron and Donna Gayhart of Port Aransas, shows a perch she caught; Andrea Rowe, 11, of Portland, displays her catch of trout; competitor Diego Zubiate, 6, of San Antonio, kicks back while fishing at J.P. Luby Pier at Roberts Point Park; and Brayden Gray, 3, of Hebbronville checks out the trophies that would be handed out to participants.
