Kids get to show off at field days

Port Aransas students will get a chance to show their stuff at two field days next week.

The Parent, Teachers Organization (PTO) will hold a track and field day for Brundrett Middle School students on Thursday, May 12, and H.G. Olsen Elementary School students on Friday, May 13, both at the Port Aransas Independent School District track at 100 S. Station St.

BMS students will enjoy an afternoon, 12:30 to 3 p.m., of obstacle courses, relays, 100-yard dashes, three-legged races, softball throws, football throws, broad jumps, long jumps and more.

Elementary school students will have a full day at the track, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a break at lunchtime. Scheduled for the younger set will be similar activities as those planned for BMS students, but with a few water activities added.

Still needed are parent volunteers and tents to provide shade during the events. Those who can help may contact event organizers Michele Lorette at 749-1616 or Tonya May at 749-0549.

“These field days can’t be successful without volunteers and tents,” Lorette said. She also invites parents who can’t volunteer to still head to the track to cheer on the kids, adding, “It’s a fun activity for the kids.”

Students should bring water bottles and sunscreen, applied before arriving to school, and wear tennis shoes and caps. Elementary students should wear their team t-shirts provided for the event. Extra water will be available at track to refill water bottles. The PTO will provide Popsicles throughout the day.
