Jr. Boatmen fishing trip slated on Sunday

Fishing and fellowship are the goals of a trip for kids in 6th through 12th grades on Sunday, April 3.

The fishing trip to the north jetty, from 7 a.m. to noon, is sponsored by the Junior Boatmen organization.

The group will catch the Jetty Boat at Fisherman’s Wharf to travel to San Jose Island.

Kids with their own bay fishing rods are asked to bring them. Anyone who does not have a rod should let the organizers know when signing up, and one can be provided.

Students 16 and older will need to have fishing licenses to participate. Closed-toe shoes should be worn along with clothing suitable for the weather.

Snacks, water and bait will be provided. Remember that San Jose is primitive, with no restroom facilities or running water.

The trip is free.

Junior Boatmen was formed in 2008 to offer a means for kids in 6th through 12th grade to share their love of fishing and the outdoors.

The organization gives Port Aransas kids who like to fish, duck hunt and give back to their community a chance to hang out with other kids who like to do the same things.
