Homecoming parade to kickoff celebration

A parade, bonfire and alumni basketball game are in the works for the Port Aransas ISD 102 Years of Excellence Celebration.

The celebration will coincide with the Port Aransas High School homecoming celebration. They are scheduled for Jan. 13-16.

On Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 4:30 p.m., there will be a homecoming parade that will begin in the PAHS parking lot. The parade will take Beach Street to Alister Street then proceed to Avenue G. From Avenue G, the parade will turn left on Station Street then back to PAHS.

Parade organizers are still looking for groups, floats and golf carts to participate in the parade. For more information or to sign up, contact Ann Appling at (361) 443-7121. After the parade, a spirit bonfire will be held on the beach from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The location of the bonfire is to be determined.

On Thursday, Jan. 14, at 1:45 p.m., there will be a homecoming pep rally for the Marlins’ and Lady Marlins’ games against the Ben Bolt High School Badgers and Lady Badgers. The games start at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15. The homecoming court will be presented, and a king and queen will be crowned after the Marlins’ game.

On Saturday, Jan. 16, the alumni band will meet at 9:30 a.m. to organize for a band performance during halftime of the Mustang vs. Marlin alumni basketball game.

At 10 a.m., school officials will conduct a grand opening of the newly fin- ished track and field facility. The track is undergoing construction and is to be open by the 102 Years celebration.

The alumni game starts at 11 a.m. and will feature the current Marlin and Lady Marlin basketball teams vs. PAHS alumni called the Mustangs.
